Artist Statement
In my research-based and interdisciplinary art practice, I employ speculative fabulation to explore and imagine alternative narratives while critically re-examining our past and present mythologies. This approach allows me to transcend conventional narratives and create new possibilities that challenge existing paradigms.
My work is characterized by its use of diverse media, including the immediacy of performance, experimental sculpture, video, and installation. Each medium serves as a conduit for investigating the fluidity of identity and the limitations imposed by fixed cultural categories. By engaging with the rigid archetypes of Turkish culture, I aim to disrupt and interrogate the expectations and rules that underpin binary systems.
Repetition plays a central role in my practice, manifesting through sculptural objects, textual elements, and recurring motifs. This technique serves as a means of deepening the exploration of my themes, allowing me to probe the nuances of identity, culture, and the constraints of conventional binaries. Through these iterative processes, I seek to illuminate the complexities and intersections of human experience, creating a space for reflection and transformation.
