"It Didn’t Hurt" is a three-minute performance video in which the artist repeatedly slaps themselves while facing the camera head-on, each time saying, “It didn’t hurt.” With every slap, their cheeks redden, and the tension between denial and reality intensifies. There is a childish obstinacy in their persistence, a refusal to acknowledge pain even as it visibly manifests on their body. The performance reveals a split between two selves: one who feels deeply and one who resists emotion. Hoping that physical pain might break through emotional numbness, the artist continues—until the pain becomes undeniable, forcing them to stop.
